"with ZEMEA propanediol"

100% corn derived, non GMO, earth friendlyTerra Naturals HEALTHY deodorants are the first to include Zemea™ Propanediol, a renewably based corn glycol.

"It is exciting to see the possibilities of Zemea(tm) Propanediol being realized as a natural ingredient in personal care products. We are happy to provide Terra Naturals with an ingredient with performance that is superior to the oil-derived alternatives." Chad O. Holliday, Jr., Chairman & CEO, DuPont

" I am really thrilled to see Zemea being used in such an exciting way in the new Terra Natural products; what a great way to stay cool and be green." Iain Ferguson CBE - Chief Executive, Tate & Lyle

Zemea™ Propanediol: the First Non-Petroleum-Based Glycol for Personal Care Formulations

DuPont Tate & Lyle BioProducts is a joint venture between DuPont, a global science and service company, and Tate & Lyle, a world leader in corn-, wheat- and sugar derived ingredients. By bringing together the unrivaled track record of DuPont in integration of biology, engineering, and material science and the technical excellence of Tate & Lyle in fermentation of natural products, scientists and engineers from this joint venture have developed a proprietary process that uses corn instead of petroleum-based feedstocks to produce 1,3-propanediol (Zemea™propanediol).

100% Corn derived

In May 2004, DuPont and Tate & Lyle joined forces to commercialize a new renewably sourced propanediol that would help reduce the global economy’s reliance on petroleum-based chemicals.

Free of GMO

Zemea™propanediol is n exceptionally pure form of 1,3-propanediol. Zemea™propanediol, produced at DuPont Tate & Lyle Bio Product's manufacturing facility in Loudon, Tennessee, tested negative for the presence of genetically modified corn traits using a qualitative PCR test. In addition, a PCR analysis of Zemea™propanediol was negative for the presence of genetic material from the fermentation-based process.

Earth Friendly

A life cycle assessment of the cradle-to-gate production of chemically derived propanediol verses the cradle-to-gate production of renewably sourced Zemea™ propanediol shows significant environmental benefits for the Loudon operations. The production of Zemea™ propanediol consumes 40 percent less energy and reduces greenhouse gas emissions by 20 percent versus petroleum-based propanediol. Production of 100 million pounds of Zemea™ propanediol in the Loudon plant will save the equivalent of 15 million gallons of gasoline per year, or enough to fuel over 27,000 cars annually. Zemea™ is also certified as readily biodegradable based on an Organization for Economic Co-Operation and Development (OECD) Guideline Test for Biodegradation.

Not Sticky

Zemea™ propanediol offers a luxurious and non-sticky texture to deodorants. It replaces vegetable glycerine which can be very sticky and reduces overall product performance.

Revolutionary

$100 million plant is world’s first to produce propanediol from corn sugar

DuPont – one of the first companies to publicly establish environmental goals 20 years ago – has broadened its sustainability commitments beyond internal footprint reduction to include market-driven targets for both revenue and research and development investment. The goals are tied directly to business growth, specifically to the development of safer and environmentally improved new products for key global markets.

An example of that commitment is reflected in the innovation of Zemea™ propanediol, a revolutionary plant based glycol replacement. Zemea™ Propanediol can be used in cosmetic and personal care applications to replace propylene glycol (1,2-propanediol), butylene glycol (1,3-/1,4-butanediol), or glycerol. Depending on your formulation needs, Zemea™ Propanediol can function as an emollient, humectant, hand-feel modifier or solvent.
