In 2001, I embarked on a mission to create a completely natural, petroleum free line of underarm cosmetic products that safely and effectively eliminated body odor.
It was evident at the time, and in fact still is to this day, that both the natural and mainstream markets offer products containing at least one and often up to 7 or 8 synthetic ingredients, most of which are derived in some way from petroleum.
It is my conviction that the skin, and in particular the underarm, is a delicate and permeable area worthy of special attention. Logic dictates that its proximity to the breast and lymphatic network could make it vulnerable to ingredients that are applied and left on all day, every day, throughout an entire lifespan.
Antiperspirants ARE classified as a DRUG by the FDA since they alter the body’s natural function. Although the jury is still out on the toxicity of aluminum, all forms of aluminum (including potassium alum), may not be healthy in the long run. Dr. Kris McGrath’s life’s work and dedication to uncover the possible link between underarm cosmetics and cancer is impressive. He continues to fund research himself, and my hope is that the revenue he receives from Terra Naturals helps to further his great work!
